Happy Birthday Dad

Today is my dad's 56th birthday which is bittersweet since he passed away a little over two years ago. Our relationship was a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs. I was a daddy's girl as a young child, thought he was a complete idiot as a teen, couldn't understand him as a young adult, and grew to accept him as I grew older. With all of this, I always loved him and he loved me. I wish the rollercoaster would have lasted longer but such is life. You never know what is coming up next or how long it is going to last so you better enjoy it while you can. In the end, it is the memories that you will cherish most so take time to pay attention. I love you dad and miss you lots. Happy Birthday!

Some things about my dad...
He loved Blue Plate Mayo. He would eat on black eye peas, bologna, turkey, spaghetti, and even just have a "Man-aise Sandwich".
His nickname was Possum. I am not sure why this was. I asked him once and don't remember him really explaining it. He just laughed and said it was just his nickname.

Some quotes that I found interesting....

"My grandfather always said that living is like licking honey off a thorn." -- Louis Adamic

"It doesn't matter who my father was; it matters who I remember he was. "
-- Anne Sexton

"Parents are often so busy with the physical rearing of children that they miss the glory of parenthood, just as the grandeur of the trees is lost when raking leaves."
--Marcelene Cox

I think I needed to hear this tonight... I always love what you say! =) I don't think I will ever not struggle with my dad's passing, but it is good to know that I have a friend that deals with it the same as I do... thanks!
